Is
my new center feasible?
Every project should begin with a feasibility assessment and analysis of your
proposed center’s revenue potential. Our pro forma for your center is based on
assumptions and formulas we have developed in our 20-plus years of building or
buying and managing more than 200 surgery centers.
How
will my partners and I pay for the new center?
The costs of building and equipping a new center can run into the millions,
depending on its size and specialty. As your partner, AmSurg pays its full share
of the costs, proportionate to our ownership percentage. Additionally, we
leverage our vast experience and economies of scale to manage and minimize the
project costs, all of which reduces the upfront capital required from you and
your fellow physician investors.
How
will my partners and I finance the new center?
As we all know, capital is more difficult and costly to access these days.
With access to our line of credit, we provide you with superior assistance in
securing project financing. There are
additional benefits to working with AmSurg over trying to secure local
financing.
Will
my new center require a Certificate of Need (CON)? How will I obtain a CON?
At least 26 states and the District of Columbia regulate new surgery center
development with Certificate of Need (CON) requirements of varying intensity
(some states have more rigorous processes and requirements than others). If a
CON is required for your new center, we have the resources and experience to
carry out this often complicated and time-consuming process, which minimizes the
hassle and time for you.
Where
should I locate my new center?
Taking into account your knowledge of your market, we identify the best
location for your center and negotiate favorable lease terms. With our
experience building and operating numerous ASCs, our site selection process
results in finding the optimal setting with the most efficient space utilization
and effective location to best serve you and your patients.
How
should my new center be designed and constructed?
The design and construction phase for a new surgery center requires extensive
time and a specialized skill set. Our center development experts put in their
time and expertise to see your new center through all stages of its design and
construction, so you don’t have to. This includes:
- Setting and sticking to the budget
- Planning efficient and appropriate architectural and interior designs
- Planning, developing and approving financing and construction documents
- Overseeing and managing a timely construction process that complies with
all applicable local, state and federal building codes
- Obtaining proper licenses, permits and inspections
Who
will equip and furnish my new center?
Our center development professionals provide budgeting, specification,
bidding and purchasing for all equipment, furniture, furnishings and supplies
for your new ASC. We negotiate equipment financing with lenders, identify
vendors and negotiate favorable purchase terms through our group purchasing
agreements, which saves you time and money.
How
will I get my new center state licensed and Medicare certified?
Dealing with government bureaucracies is usually time-consuming and can be
frustrating. Our center development experts and licensure and certification
specialists will obtain all of the numerous licenses, certificates and permits
that are required to open and operate your new surgery center. We file
applications, ensure all quality assurance standards are met and coordinate
on-site inspections by licensing personnel.
How
will I recruit, hire and train center staff?
Staffing your center at the appropriate levels, with the right number of
well-trained and suitably compensated employees, is critical for success. Our
surgery center management experts will recruit, hire and train the center
director and assist with hiring other center staff. In addition, we offer
numerous
Human Resources benefits and services that will contribute to the successful
operation of your new center.
How
will my center’s operations be set up to best serve my patients and meet
regulatory requirements?
We provide and document the countless clinical and operating policies and
procedures necessary for complying with state and federal regulations and the
successful provision of excellent care for your patients. We also arrange for
all of the services that are necessary for the operation of the center, such as
hospital transfer agreements and equipment maintenance agreements.
A new surgery center project requires extensive time and specialized
knowledge to execute. With AmSurg at your side when developing your new ASC, the
end result will be a surgery center that is ready to open its doors on time, on
(or under) budget and prepared for a successful future.
